"I found a dream, that I could speak to, A dream that I can call my own."
  - Etta James

Kirk and Amanda first met in 2013 at a meeting of the Baltimore Cancer Support Group. Amanda was the first to join. Her mom was in end stage colon cancer and she needed some people she could talk to. Kirk joined a few months later, after being told his colon cancer had returned for the second time in two years, seeking a bit more support. Kirk's very first meeting another member became quite ill and had to be taken to the hospital. Kirk immediatedly volunteered and went above and beyond that night to make sure the man was ok. After such an unconventional and dramatic start, no one expected him to return. Luckily, for Amanda, he did.

Over the next year they only saw each other for a few hours each week at their Thursday night meetings. As time went on they began talking to each other more at the end of each meeting. Shortly after the 2014 new year Kirk asked Amanda if she would like to come over and watch a movie as he was still on active treatment and wasn't up to going out. She agreed and they watched 'The Butler'. After that they started talking on the phone and Amanda would ask Kirk to come hang out with her and her friends. They were growing closer and closer but remained friends as only hints of romance arose.

The "first official date" is highly debated subject. Some may say it was the first time they met up with friends outside of group or the first time they hung out alone together.  Kirk says it was when they went to a Magooby's comedy show together. He made a point to look his best that night. When they arrived he came around and opened the car door for Amanda. She found this quite alarming as it might be signaling that they were indeed dating despite her protesting this fact to all of her friends. Amanda believes it was a later date. The day they drove out to Annapolis, had lunch, ate ice cream by the water, and held hands for the first time. The one thing that no one disputes is that through all those months of dating/non-dating Kirk had yet to kiss her. On March 15, 2014 after a fun St. Patricks celebration they went back to Julie's house and that first kiss finally happened. Thusly, they decided to use that date as their "official anniversary". We hope you will be able to join us, as once and for all, the anniversary date controversy is finally put to rest as they wed on October 9, 2016.
